The album includes â??Spooky, Scary Skeletonsâ?â??a cult favorite, thanks to its popularity as a meme for nearly a decade on YouTube and, most recently, on TikTok. As a special bonus, the catchy â??Undead Tombstone Remixâ? of the popular song is included in this edition of the album. Featuring appearances by Goldâ??s longtime collaborator, singer Linda Ronstadt, â??70s heartthrob David Cassidy, singer Nicolette Larson, plus acclaimed songwriters Karla Bonoff and Stephen Bishop, as well as Goldâ??s children, the album offers sweetly scary songs for the whole family to enjoy. Originally released in 1996, Halloween Howls was recorded by Gold to fill a void in seasonal music. In the original liner notes of the childrenâ??s album, he wrote â??Each holiday has a mood and usually has music to go with itâ?¦However, itâ??s been very hard to find any tapes or CDs of Halloween music. In fact, thereâ??s mostly just scary sound effects available and very few songs. So, I fixed that.â? Recruiting several of his musician friends and collaborators to join in the fun, Gold recorded a collection of both classic Halloween tunes (â??The Monster Mash,â? â??The Addams Familyâ? and â??Ghostbusters) as well as whimsically creepy original tunes, including â??It Must Be Halloween,â? â??In Our Haunted House,â? and, of course, â??Spooky, Scary Skeletons.â? â??Spooky, Scary Skeletonsâ? originally became a phenomenon in 2010, when a YouTuber paired Goldâ??s track with a 1929 Disney cartoon called â??The Skeleton Dance.â? The video garnered over 34 million views, helping to popularize the song. Now, the track has become a phenomenon yet again with a new generation, thanks to a short dance video that was posted earlier this fall by a 16-year-old user. The video, featuring a remix of the track, has had over five million views to date and has inspired countless posts with other TikTok usersâ?? interpretations of the dance. - ..
