Description: | Canadian pianist Glenn Gould (1932-1982)
became one of the best-known and most
celebrated classical pianists of the 20th
century. He was particularly renowned as an
interpreter of the keyboard music of Johann
Sebastian Bach. Gould's playing was
distinguished by his remarkable technical
proficiency and his capacity to articulate
the polyphonic texture of Bach's music.
This release presents Gould's complete
original 1955 rendition of Bach's Goldberg
Variations (Columbia, ML-5060). The work
launched the pianist's career as a renowned
international player, and became one of the
most well-known piano recordings. Sales
were "astonishing" for a classical album: it
was reported to have sold 40,000 copies
by 1960, and had sold more than 100,000
by the time of Gould's death in 1982. - LINER NOTES180-Gram Vinyl Limited Edition. Contains specially prepared liner notes by Brian Morton.
