 | Description: | With his lyrics, his performances and his songs, Bob Dylan shaped US pop culture in the 1960s like no other contemporary. The icon of folk and rock music influenced a generation of fellow musicians who were unable or unwilling to escape his charisma. French music producer Philippe Le Bras spent years developing the concept of a compilation on which Dylan's influence is clearly audible at every second, but on which not a single cover version of a Dylan song can be heard. Yet the master is present on every track on this CD, leaving his mark on these songs and their performers. It's amazing who is here: Lou Reed, Leon Russell, David Crosby, Boz Scaggs, Bob Seger, Bobby Darin, Tom Rush, Len Chandler, Dion, Peter La Farge, Barry McGuire, Casey Anderson, Ferré Grignard, Dick Campbell, P.F. Sloan, Dean DeWolf, Johnny Winter, Billy Joe Royal, David Blue and others. Three of the 25 artists on the CD made their debut in the mid/late fifties, one was added after 1975. Throughout, you can hear these artists trying to catch up with their colleague and mentor and write songs in the way he pioneered.
