Dorsey Burnette wore a lot of musical hats during the early years of his prolific career. Ferocious bass-slapping rockabilly with The Rock â??n Roll Trio, prolific hit songwriter with his brother Johnny for Ricky Nelson, a hitmaker in his own right with the 1960 pop chart-climbers (There Was A) Tall Oak Tree and Hey Little One, and a producer whose assorted assignments included a Little Stevie Wonder session for Tamla. Much of Dorseyâ??s early heyday has been amply represented in Bear Familyâ??s catalog over the years, but one bountiful period overlooked until now receives a thorough investigation on the new two-CD set â??The Complete Reprise and Motown Recordings plus... (1962-1965).â?? Its 45 tracks include everything Burnette released on Frank Sinatraâ??s Reprise label as well as on Motownâ??s short-lived Mel-o-dy imprint and scattered singles from the same era for Lama and Imperial. Thatâ??s just the lineup on disc one. The second CD boasts 20 previously unheard tracks expanding Dorseyâ??s catalog even further, ranging from intriguing originals that he wrote with Wrecking Crew bassist Joe Osborn to distinctive renditions of Gotta Travel On and Honey Come Back. Dorseyâ??s deep-toned pipes were never less than satisfying; this collection restores some of his rarest sides to print at last! - BOOKLET Dorsey Burnette wore a lot of musical hats during the early years of his prolific career.
