Description:Weird of Mouth is a compelling example of where this music is today: a cooperative and trans-national trio, it consists of Danish-born and Norway-based alto saxophonist Mette Rasmussen, pianist Craig Taborn and drummer Ches Smith, the latter two living in New York. This self-titled debut recording follows a small handful of gigs in North America since their first appearance at venerable lower Manhattan hub The Stone in 2016. The music here is entirely improvised, its seven tracks pulled together from a fruitful early summer 2022 studio session in Brooklyn, expertly mixed by Deerhoof guitarist John Dieterich. -
