Description:ENVY OF NONE RETURN WITH HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SECOND ALBUM â??STYGIAN WAVESâ??. PRESENTED ON BLACK VINYL LP & MASTERED AT HALF-SPEED. â??Stygian Wavesâ?? builds on the impeccable musicianship & stellar songwriting of Envy of Noneâ??s eponymous, acclaimed 2022 debut. With this new album, the Canadian-American supergroup boldly ventures into a spectrum of new guises â?? from alt-pop & industrial rock to synthwave & hard rock. Recorded primarily in Toronto in 2024 & entirely self-produced, â??Stygian Wavesâ?? is the culmination of each memberâ??s distinct musical vision, blending haunting melodies, moreish riffs & richly layered electronic textures into a compelling & unique sound. There was a palpable sense of anticipation in the air when Envy of None announced their debut in 2022. After all, it marked the first full-band project from world-renowned guitarist Alex Lifeson since his groundbreaking work with the legendary prog-rock trio Rush. Lifeson joined forces with a remarkable lineup: rising star Maiah Wynne on vocals, esteemed producer Alfio Annibalini (guitar, keyboards), Coney Hatchâ??s Andy Curran (bass, programming, guitar) & features Canadian session legend Randy Cooke (Mick Jagger, Alanis Morisette, Kelly Clarkson) on drums. Their debut exceeded expectations, with Record Collector describing it as ""rich in creativity"" in a 4-star review & France's Rock Hard Magazine naming it Album of the Month & praising its ""effective, modern, inspired tracks."" The bandâ??s playing oozes conviction & class, Lifesonâ??s guitar work more inventive & powerful than ever, but itâ??s the talismanic Maiah Wynne â?? now hailing from San Francisco â?? who truly defines Envy of Noneâ??s sound. With her pensive, deft lyricism & impassioned vocal performance, Wynne pushes â??Stygian Wavesâ?? into fresh, mesmerizing territory. The 11 songs on the album mark a significant progression in the bandâ??s sound, every song meticulously lasered down to its most essential & captivating elements. With the bandâ??s very own Alf Annibalini on mixing duties, the songs benefit from an intrinsic understanding of their evolution, his involvement in the writing process ensuring the mix truly captures the essence of their vision. Mastering by Harry Hess at HBomb Mastering (Barenaked Ladies, Billy Talent, Big Wreck) completes the albumâ??s flawless sound quality. With â??Stygian Wavesâ??, Envy of None overcomes any challenges typically associated with the notoriously tricky second album. Sharper, tighter & more memorable than anything theyâ??ve done before, â??Stygian Wavesâ?? is the work of a band at the top of their game â?? & still only just getting started. This edition of â??Stygian Wavesâ?? is presented on classic black vinyl LP & is mastered at half-speed at HBomb Mastering. -
Envy of None: Sophomore album from the supergroup featuring Alex Lifeson of RUSH. Though they'd never describe themselves as such, Envy of None are the living, breathing definition of a supergroup. No other band on earth could rightly claim to have Alex Lifeson - one of rock's most influential visionaries - heading up guitar duties, with Andy Curran of Coney Hatch and Soho 69 overseeing bass/programming as well as producer extraordinaire Alfio Annibalini on keyboards. However, the star in this band could very well be it's youngest member - American singer- songwriter Maiah Wynne - whose wonderfully emotive vocals are able to spin the music in new exciting directions that thrill to the core. On their self-titled debut of 2022, the group were able to prove that they were a lot more than the sum of their parts, with an abundance of panache and finesse poured into a contemporary alt rock sound that was hard to predict and even harder to categorise. This year's sophomore release, titled Stygian Waves, is the sound of a band basking in the radiant glow of creative confidence and coming into their own, staggering the listener with every twist and turn encased within their heady mix of genre-splicing brilliance.
