Recorded in 1965 but not released until 1979, this album showcases Shorter's innovative approach to post-bop jazz and features an all-star lineup including Freddie Hubbard, James Spaulding, McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams. The compositions are both complex and deeply expressive, highlighting Shorter's unique voice as a composer and performer. Blue Note Records has long been synonymous with excellence in jazz production since its founding in 1939; it has nurtured some of the greatest talents in jazz history. Wayne Shorter himself is celebrated for his work with Art Blakey?s Jazz Messengers, Miles Davis? Second Great Quintet, Weather Report, as well as his prolific solo career?earning multiple Grammy Awards and influencing generations of musicians.
