Coleman Hawkins with such sidemen as Pee Wee Russell, Charlie Shavers, J.C. Higginbotham and others. Includes some of his best-known tunes, too- Body and Soul; the Man I Love, and a seven and a half minute rendition of Avalon !The tray card states that this CD is a reissue of Phoenix Jazz Records LP 18, but that is incorrect, since it features a different artist. The material is drawn fromPhoenix Jazz Records LP 22.
Tracks 1 to 3 were recorded in October 1954, 4, 6 & 7 on February 10, 1951, track 5 with unknown personnel on May 4, 1950, track 8 on September 25, 1958. |
