Description:Millions knew her as the Oscar-nominated actress in Mildred Pierce and many other films, but Ann was also a trained vocalist with a beautiful voice. Her overdue first CD has songs from the Great Caruso, Rose Marie, the Student Prince and Kismet and duets with Mario Lanza, Vic Damone, Fernando Lamas and Howard Keel!
While not well known now, Ann Blyth was possibly the most popular star of the early 1950s. She most often starred in musicals and, fortunately, some of her songs are captured on this CD. She has a beautiful, clear soprano and every song is from one of her films. Sadly, in Helen Morgan, the film for which she is best known and for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, her glorious voice was dubbed. (Actually, that made sense since Helen Morgan was an alto while Ms. Blyth is a soprano. Still -- I wish they hadn't dubbed her voice so we would have a record of a few more songs by the exquisite Ann Blyth.) This is a fine, clear recording and a treasure for anyone who loved the old-time MGM musicals. ~ Patricia Bloom ? All original soundtrack recordings.
