Although Sousa was known as the march king and standardised the march format he was much more that that with this disc containing some well - known and not so well known marches
The suite featured here titled "Looking Upward" has great rhythms with each of the three movements mirroring its title with the finale erupting into a storm before calm is restored with both themes intertwined.
Also featured is an exquisite waltz and a sly humouresque on George Gershwin's "Swanee".
My pick as the stand out tracks are: 1. Lookinig Upward; 2. the waltz "Colonial Dames"; 3 march "Imperial Edward"; 4. Hands Acros The Sea and 5 march "Swanee.
