John M. - 03/Jan/2016 4 of 5 Stars!
Although this disc contains mainly marches there are three other works that balance it out. The first of them, the suite "Tales of a Traveler" is a landmark Sousa composition accurately describing [and actually visualising what his band did that year - tour the world. Of note is that the finale "Coronation March" was replaced some years later by the sprightly ragtime "Easter Monday on White House Lawn" which opens Volume 6 and is among the highlights of that disc. We are also treated to a waltz - genre in which Sousa relished and selections from the farcial operetta "The Bride Elect. There are but a a few of the selections here however if you want the full operetta I reccommend purchasing "On Stage" which also contains the exquisite operettas :El Capitan and "Our Flirtations that feature wonderful solos throughout them. This disc also features the perennial favourite "Stare and Stripes Forever" which needs no explaining. My selections here are 1. Tales of a Traveler, 2, the waltz "Coeds of Michigan; 3. Stars and Stripes Forever; 4. The Aviators; 5 Sesqui- Centennial Exposition. John McMullen
