Description:Ein Versicherungsagent wird aus Liebe zum Komplizen einer gewissenlosen Frau, die ihren Mann ermorden will, um sein Vermögen zu kassieren.
Phyllis Dietrichson verführt den jungen Versicherungsvertreter Walter Neff und überredet ihn, ihr bei einem Mordkomplott gegen ihren Mann zu helfen. Neff lässt eine hohe Lebensversicherung von Mr. Dietrichson unterschreiben und plant den Mord gemeinsam mit Phyllis. Erst scheint alles aufzugehen und der Tod wird für einen Unfall gehalten. Bis sich ausgerechnet Neffs Kollege und Freund Barton Keyes, der auf Betrügereien spezialisiert ist, einschaltet. Keyes kommt der Wahrheit immer näher und in Neff reift der Wunsch nun auch Phyllis loswerden zu wollen. Doch auch sie hat einen Plan. Als beide schließlich aufeinander treffen, schießt Phyllis zuerst, doch sie verwundet Neff nur und er bringt sie um.
