For the first release in the series, Il Progetto Vivaldi, Sol Gabetta has chosen five concertos of Vivaldi's for cello. Composed after 1723, they stand out for their virtuosity, stirring tempos and graceful cantilenas. Also included is an arrangement of the "Winter" movement from the Four Seasons. Gabetta is accompanied by one of the best known Italian early music ensembles, the Sonatori de la Gioisa Marca.
