Before it's sensational premiere in 1908, Hans Richter, the work' dedicatee and first conductor, acclaimed Elgar' Symphony No. 1 as 'the greatest symphony of modern times'.
Tracks 1-4: Recorded 20-22 November, 1930 in Kingsway Hall, London Tracks 5-10: Recorded 11-12 November, 1931 and 4 February 1932 in EMI Abbey Road Studio No. 1, London The present Transfers were made using the best portions of two 78 rpm pressing copies for each set. The CEDAR-2 declicking module was employed both to eliminated pops and clicks as well as to tame the crackle inherent in the original British HMV shellac discs.
