YOB’s The Illusion of Motion is more than just an album—it’s an experience. From the first note, you’re pulled into a sonic landscape that’s heavy, hypnotic, and deeply emotional. The title track alone is a slow-burning masterpiece that captures the band’s ability to balance crushing doom with moments of transcendence. Every riff feels deliberate, every growl heartfelt. This album speaks to something primal and spiritual, and it has stayed with me long after the last track ends. Highly recommended for anyone who seeks depth and power in their music.

“The Illusion of Motion” is the third full-length album by the American doomsters YOB. It is their first album released under the contract with the major Metal Blade Records. Adding a bigger production along with a heavy dose of aggression, to gargantuan riffs and psyche-droning sound of their previous albums, YOB created their most cohesive and monolithic work to date that captured the true essence of modern Stoner-Doom-Metal. Clocking in at 56 minutes, the album features only 4 tracks of which the shortest is over 6 minutes (“Doom #2”) and the longest one over 26 minutes (“The Illusion of Motion” itself). There are quite a few interesting shifts and turns on each song. But as the whole, it tends to appeal to those who aren't afraid to hear a band stretch out. As for the vocals, Mike Scheidt’s singing style arguably takes a little getting used to, but it definitely gives the band a lot of individuality. Overall, this recording turned into Stoner-Doom-Metal classic long ago, a must have for those interested in the sub-genre.
