Yuriy P. - 14/Feb/2025 "Ashes of the Wake"... This was the first album I heard from Lamb of God and it was from this album that I fell in love with this band. Excellent work. Actually, why shouldn't you like it? Starting from the first chords of the brilliant "Laid to Rest", the album does not let go until the very end. A little less metalcore, a little more thrash and groove cutting, clear riffs, brilliant work of Chris Adler (may God bless his bass drum playing), finally formed excellent vocals of Randy Blythe. Add to this a polished sound and you get a great result. Actually, the work has only one minus, but it, however, can also be an advantage. The entire album is sustained in a single style, built on the same ideas, resulting in a solid, clear, monolithic work, not deviating one step from the general idea. Minus or plus - it's up to you to decide. True, for some monotony in the middle, still a minus point.
Songs like "Laid to Rest", "Hourglass", "Blood of the Scribe" are forever included in the personal list of the best metal compositions, and "Ashes of the Wake" is one of the most beloved instrumentals.
