 | Description: | Miles Davis and Gil Evans collaborated on high-concept projects three different times during their celebrated careers. For their final act, they created Sketches of Spain, a peak moment in each luminaryâ??s legacy. The transformative album weds Spanish themes, lush orchestrations, romantic timbres, and Davisâ?? increasingly lyrical methods in a tender ceremony that resonates more than six decades after its original release in 1960. Seldom, if ever, did Davis ever so expressively and liberally paint with color. And in Evans, he has a likewise-minded partner to help draw out tones, shades, layers, and textures. What they achieved continues to draw praise from the global music community. Ranked #358 on Rolling Stoneâ??s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and deemed â??a work of unparalleled grace and lyricismâ? by noted scribe J.D. Considine, the
Grammy Award-winning effort has never sounded or looked better. - One of the greatest jazz recordings of all time, Sketches of Spain features Miles with large ensemble arranged and conducted by Gil Evans. Truly a jazz milestone, this album presents Davis and Evans at their musical peak. This title is part of Sony's Jazz Masterpiece reissue series, featuring 20-bit digital remastering, deluxe packaging and bonus material. Additional tracks: "Song of Our Country" and 2 alternate takes of "Concierto de Aranjuez"; 19 minutes of new music!Issued in standard clear-tray jewel case with 20-page booklet.

Dmitry S. - 16/Apr/2025 Sketches of Spain is perhaps one of the absolute best collaborations between Miles Davis and Gil Evans. The lush orchestration is juxtaposed with Miles' sublime playing bringing out the desperation in the music, the laughter, and the folk dance nature - all at appropriate times.
| | Robert S. - 24/Jan/2021 Beautiful arrangements by Gil Evans and Miles Davis. Not a standard jazz album but is more of a score. Another Must Have!
| | Ivica S. - 10/Nov/2019 This album is classic Davis. If Davis was a Spaniard, and not a Black American, this is the album he would have made ... Highly recommend
