"Gateway (Touchstones)" is a landmark jazz album by the trio of John Abercrombie, Dave Holland, and Jack DeJohnette, released in CD format by ECM Records. This recording captures the synergy between three master musicians at the height of their creative powers. The music blends elements of post-bop, fusion, and free improvisation into an atmospheric journey that showcases each artist's virtuosity and sensitivity. The interplay between Abercrombie?s expressive guitar lines, Holland?s inventive bass work, and DeJohnette?s dynamic drumming creates a soundscape both adventurous and deeply melodic. ECM Records is renowned for its pristine production values and commitment to artistic integrity in jazz and contemporary classical music since 1969. John Abercrombie was celebrated for his lyrical approach to jazz guitar; Dave Holland has been acclaimed as one of the most influential bassists in modern jazz; Jack DeJohnette stands among the genre's most innovative drummers?each with storied careers including collaborations with Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, and more.

Eugene S. - 19/Aug/2024 5 of 5 Stars!
The debut album by jazz trio Gateway recorded in March 1975. The AllMusic review by Scott Yanow states "The interplay between the three musicians is quite impressive although listeners might find some of the music to be quite unsettling. It takes several listens for one to digest all that is going on, but it is worth the struggle." I recommend.

Early years, the dawn of the ECM! All are full of avant-garde ideas, there is a continuous search for sound nuances. The highest exactingness to ourselves. Unfortunately, this time has passed. Take the opportunity to gain warmth and earnest spontaneity.
