Possibly the first true example of what is commonly called Viking metal, 1988's Blood Fire Death inaugurated an incredibly prolific period in Bathory's history - so prolific and creative, in fact, that an entire album's worth of material recorded at this time would be shelved for years before eventually finding room for release as 1996's Blood on Ice. My favorite album in the Bathory collection is the deadly attacking power of Thrash Metal. This is where the Vikung chapter begins, but it has not yet acquired the art form inherent in albums like Hammerheart and later.

Blood Fire Death is one of the most important Bathory albums. Here the Viking Metal started, since Blood on Ice, recorded before it but was released some years later. Great epic songs, like Fine Day to Die and Blood Fire Death make this album essential for any Metal collector.
