The Last In Line

The second studio album by American heavy metal band Dio, released on July 2, 1984. It was certified gold (500,000 units sold) by the RIAA on September 12, 1984, and was the first Dio album to be certified platinum. I recommend.

Ronnie James Dio's second album “The Last In Line” seemed to me somewhat weaker than the debut disc “Holy Diver”. Although on "The Last In Line" you can find a lot of healthy drive, a sea of ​​energy, as well as a melody made in the style of Dio, but ... hits have become much less, and the rest of the non-hit songs seemed very simple to me. On the other hand, the album is a complete continuation of the previous disc, both from the technical point of view and from the melodic one, which serves only positively for its evaluation. It is worth noting that Dio recently began using various productions in his concert shows. Which consisted of various monsters that Ronnie tried to fight. Yes, after all, the nickname of the evil elf was given to him for a reason! Regarding the album in question, it should be noted that it contains both songs of just good quality and real bombs capable of exploding and instantly hitting listeners, one of which I would call the hyper-energetic opening number "We Rock", where simple but pleasant lyrics raise the bar even higher. The composition "Breathless" turned out very interesting, performed in a medium tempo rhythm and possessing a very aggressive melody. Action movie One Night In The City pleases with its driving riffs and gloomy lyrics. In particular, I would like to highlight the closing song on the album - "Egypt (The Chains Are On)", filled with oriental melodies that are quite uncharacteristic for the band and a very mystical atmosphere. This song reminded me of a very well-known song by the Rainbow group “Gates Of Babylon”, only in the “Egypt” number its atmospheric and uniqueness cover everything! Actually the rest of the songs are not bad either, but they are too standard even for such a legend as Dio. In general, the disc "The Last In Line" leaves a good impression, and despite some mistakes it remains a classic in its purest form!

The second album incomparable Ronnie James Dio. Of course, his first album apart from the competition, but I would put it in third place in my ranking.
