Eugene S. - 15/Jul/2024 The seventh studio album by American heavy metal band Megadeth. Released on June 17, 1997. The album debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in October 1997 for shipping 500,000 copies in the United States.
| | ricardo g. - 05/Jan/2022 Released on 1997, it was the band's last studio album to feature drummer Nick Menza. Trust is one of my favorite tracks.Great album.
| | Yuriy P. - 24/Mar/2021 "Thrash is, of course, good, but the melody would not hurt" - thought Megadeth and released "Cryptic writings". As a result, we have a solid mid-tempo melodic hard rock / heavy metal, with a rocky soft sound of guitars and active involvement of acoustics. For the sake of fairness, it should be noted that some elements of thrash are still there, but they are much less than even on the previous full-length album "Youthanasia", where heavy guitars were also pushed aside a lot for the sake of Mustain's tearful choruses. No, I do not condemn the musicians at all, so, a statement of fact. I would especially like to note the brilliant sound-producing of the album - the sound is just brilliant, just what you need - powerful, but not too heavy (here the brutal distortion would look very stupid, in my opinion). The most successful tracks in my opinion are Trust (no comments), powerful Almost Honest, sloppy speed metal, although not indicative for this album by The Disintegrators. What is missing? And this album lacks some significance, monumentality, maybe even pretentiousness would not hurt - the only exception is Trust. Yes, there are no ballads of the level A tout le monde (which is a pity). But in general, perhaps not the most significant megadet album, but also not the worst - that's a fact.
| | Vladislav M. - 18/Dec/2020 Normal "Megadeth" delivered on the assembly line.
The album has strengths and weaknesses, and the band had long been a celebrity by the time it was released. I don’t know what prevented them from releasing a great album, it turned out to be an ordinary one.
| | ALEXANDER VLADIMIROVICH K. - 02/Oct/2019 One of Megadeth's best albums! Energy is perfectly combined with melody. Music for any mood that will charge you with a positive. The masterpiece that is performed at every concert is "She-Wolf". Very beautiful "A Secret Place". "Almost Honest" and "Use The Man" instantly remain in memory. An album that honestly deserves the highest rating!
| | Alexander S. - 02/Jul/2019 It was not possible to repeat the success of the previous album, but only because the “Youthanasia” disc was too good. This album was not so bright in melodic forms and not so original in the sound, becoming closer to the rock music that dominated the world rock scene at the time, but, like no other album, it turned out to be a lively, sturdy hard-n-heavy . Many people call this rock and roll on thrash-based thrash-and-roll. Even having simplified his music in the nineties, Dave remained faithful to speed and drive - the MegadetH trumps of the eighties. Unconditional hits of the album were the tracks “Trust” (this composition was among the nominees for “Grammy”), “Almost Honest”, ”Use the Man”, “Secret Place”, ”She-Wolf”, in general, and about this album you can say: there are no weak things on it.
Most of the songs again, in one degree or another, are about death, destruction, murder and murderers - “She-Wolf”, “Secret Place”, ”Disintegrators”. Other songs are devoted to more complex problems: drug addiction (“Use the Man”), people’s zombies (“Mastermind”), difficulties in human relationships (“Trust”, “Almost Honest”, ”Sin”).
My favorite things are “Trust”, ”Secret Place”, ”She-Wolf”, ”I’ll Get Even”.
