Coming up screaming from the depths of Florida - there being no scarier state in the union - Marilyn Manson cannily positioned themselves as a goth-industrial hybrid on their debut album, Portrait of an American Family. At this stage in their evolution, Marilyn Manson was clearly a band, not just the project of Brian Warner, aka Mr. Manson, who would later simply adopt his band's name as his own. In other words, it's Manson at his silliest, singing about "My Monkey" and "Snake Eyes and Sissies." Nevertheless, beneath all the camp shock there are signs of Warner's unerring eye for genuine outrage and musical talent, particularly on the trio of "Cake and Sodomy," "Lunchbox," and "Dope Hat., Runningtime: 00:00:00, Artwork [Doll Family, Logo, Artwork And Album Design Created By]: Marilyn Manson (2), Artwork [Tattoos]: Albert Sgambati, Artwork [Tattoos]: Donovan (10), Bass: Gidget Gein, Drums [Hitting]: Sara Lee Lucas, Edited By [Digital], Programmed By: Charlie Clouser, Edited By [Digital], Programmed By: Sean Beavan, Edited By [Digital], Programmed By: Trent Reznor, Electric Organ [Hammond], Theremin, Saxophone, Organ [Calliopenis], Brass, Electronics [Babies, Distorted Muzette], Loops: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Engineer: Alan Moulder, Engineer: Roli Mosimann, Engineer [Assistant]: Barry Goldberg (2), Engineer [Assistant]: Brian Pollack, Engineer [Assistant]: Brian Scheuble, Engineer [Assistant]: Chris Vrenna, Engineer [Assistant]: Mark Gruber, Executive-Producer: Trent Reznor, Guitar [Psychoacoustical]: Daisy Berkowitz, Lighting [Mood Lighting]: Wade Wright (2), Lyrics By: Marilyn Manson (2), Management: Frank Callari, Management: John Tovar, Management: TCA Group, Mastered By: Tom Baker (3), Mixed By: Alan Moulder, Mixed By: Mark Freegard, Mixed By: Sean Beavan, Mixed By: Trent Reznor, Performer [Base Tendencies]: Twiggy Ramirez, Photography By: Robin Perine, Photography By [American Family Cover And Floating Dolls Photography]: Jeff Weiss (3), Photography By [Polaroids]: Marilyn Manson (2), Producer: Marilyn Manson (2), Producer: Trent Reznor, Producer [Assistant]: Alan Moulder, Producer [Assistant]: Sean Beavan, Public Relations [Publicity]: Formula Artist Development & P.R., Public Relations [Publicity]: Sioux Zimmerman, Sleeve [Packaging]: Gary Talpas, Technician [Live Sound]: Chris Meyer, Vocals [Accusations], Performer [Child Manipulations, Backwards Masking]: Marilyn Manson (2), Adapted By: Marilyn Manson (2), Performer [Boat Ride]: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Performer [Boat Ride]: Marilyn Manson (2), Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Guitar [Bionic]: Trent Reznor, Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Music By: Gidget Gein, Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Music By: Gidget Gein, Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Music By: Gidget Gein, Music By: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Loops [Additional]: Marilyn Manson (2), Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Music By: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Music By: Marilyn Manson (2), Percussion [Additional]: Chris Vrenna, Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Music By: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Saxophone [Uncontrolled]: Hope Nicholls, Drums [Additional Voodoo Drums]: Charlie Clouser, Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Noises [Knives]: Marilyn Manson (2), Performer [Violation]: Melissa (7), Backing Vocals, Other [Citronella]: Hope Nicholls, Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Loops [Scab Loop]: Marilyn Manson (2), Music By: Gidget Gein, Music By: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Music By: Gidget Gein, Music By: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Percussion [Skull]: Podboy, Voice [Maria]: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Brass [The Pitiful Pot Pie Brass Section]: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Brass [The Pitiful Pot Pie Brass Section]: Sean Beavan, Brass [The Pitiful Pot Pie Brass Section]: Trent Reznor, Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Voice [Boy, Age 6]: Robert Pierce, Music By: Daisy Berkowitz, Music By: Gidget Gein, Music By: Madonna Wayne Gacy, Labelcode 4923442 (IND92344, IND92344, IND 92344), Distributed By BMG, Record Company BMG Entertainment, Phonographic Copyright (p) Interscope Records, Copyright (c) Interscope Records, Glass Mastered At Sonopress, Published By Beat Up Your Mom Music, Published By Dinger & Ollie Music, Published By Onward Music, Published By Longitude Music, Recorded At Record Plant, Los Angeles, Recorded At The Village Recorder, Recorded At Pig (3), Recorded At Criteria Recording Studios, Mixed At The Village Recorder, Mixed At Pig (3), Mastered At Future Disc
