"Mercenary" is a powerful CD release by the legendary British death metal band Bolt Thrower, brought to you by Sony Music and Metal Blade. This album, originally released in 1998, showcases Bolt Thrower's signature blend of crushing riffs, relentless drumming, and war-themed lyrics that have earned them a devoted global following. "Mercenary" stands out with its heavy soundscapes and atmospheric intensity?an essential addition for any extreme metal enthusiast's collection. The collaboration between Sony Music and Metal Blade ensures top-notch production quality and wide distribution. Bolt Thrower has been a cornerstone of the death metal scene since their formation in 1986, achieving critical acclaim with albums like "Realm of Chaos," "The IVth Crusade," and "Those Once Loyal." Their uncompromising style has influenced countless bands worldwide.
I needed this album to complete my Bolt Thrower collection. To me Bolt Thrower is the AC/DC of Death Metal. They are consistent and when you put on one of their albums you know exactly what you are getting: RIFFS

Not a bad album by one of the most famous death metal bands from England. I recommend it only for fans

A very heavy album ... Nowhere can anyone meet such a severity. It was here that Bolt Thrower achieved the clearest and most legible sound of guitars, previously it was more blurry. Vocals are very much in the subject: hard, dry, albeit not very loud growling. The feeling of despair and anger is felt 100% here. The composition "Powder Burns" is simply amazing in its gloom and hopelessness. There is a melody here, but not everyone will be able to "enter" it. The album I’ve been listening to from beginning to end for the past five years, and it doesn’t bother me.

From my point of view, "Mercenary" is a strong, homogeneous album. All the elements that make a Bolt Thrower album are there: dense guitars playing groovy riffs and Karl Willets' deep guttural vocals spewing war obsessed lyrics. It is a worthy addition to the spectacular discography of Bolt Thrower. It has the signature Bolt Thrower sound and all the bells and whistles associated with a Bolt Thrower record and it is no worse than any of the previous records.
