"In the Shadows" is a powerful comeback album by Danish heavy metal legends Mercyful Fate, released in 1993 and now available on CD from Sony Music/Metal Blade. This record marks the band's return after nearly a decade apart, featuring their signature blend of dark lyrical themes, intricate guitar work, and King Diamond's unmistakable falsetto vocals. The album includes standout tracks like "The Bell Witch" and "Egypt," showcasing both technical prowess and atmospheric storytelling that have made Mercyful Fate icons in the metal world. Sony Music/Metal Blade are renowned for supporting groundbreaking artists across genres; Metal Blade especially has been pivotal in promoting influential metal acts since the early 1980s. Mercyful Fate themselves are celebrated pioneers of black and heavy metal, with classic albums such as "Melissa" and "Don't Break the Oath." Their influence can be heard throughout generations of extreme music.

A truly wonderful comeback album after the long hiatus the band was in (1985-1993). Every single song on it is quite epic and being released during the 90's, when traditional heavy metal was in decline, gives it more credibility. My favorite Mercyful Fate release.

A top quality but rather cheap reissue of the fourth album (released in 1993) by the most famous Danish heavy metal band leaded by fantastic vocalist King Diamond. Ten impressive metal tracks marked by his memorable voice. Maybe, not a masterpiece as predecessors of this album but must have!

This is a nice come back of the Mercyful Fate in the '90s. The Danish in their third album deliver quality heavy metal. Highly recommended!

This is a 2014 reissue of the 1993 album from heavy metal band Mercyful Fate, released on Metal Blade records. 10 tracks total, including Egypt.

The third full-length album Mercyful Fate, in general, alas, turned out much weaker "Do not Break the Oath", where almost every song was a hit and firmly cling to the first time. Here the picture is different - basically the disk is filled with rather average material, which does not cling at all and does not represent anything of interest. Really good things can be called the starting song "Egypt" and, perhaps, "Shadows". But the disc would never have received more than 5 points, if not for the most amazing song "Is that You, Melissa?". I do not think that I will seriously violate the truth if I say that this is one of the most beautiful songs that I ever heard. Here King gets up with his voice so crazy things that you just marvel at how such a thing is possible. You can listen to the album for the sake of one song and not be disappointed.

Magnificent album, one of the best in the discography of Mercyful Fate, the album is full of hits and just memorable compositions. King Diamond vocal breaks your soul while listening to this album. A real immortal classic of the genre. I recommend!
