I associate this album with such a concept as “healthy English conservatism.” There is nothing flashy or scandalous in BOLT THROWER's music, but everything is done very tastefully and professionally, without unnecessary frills. The musicians do not shock listeners with the pathological anatomical design of the disc, and their vocalist growls so that the words of the songs are very legible and understandable to anyone familiar with the language of Shakespeare and Dickens. These Britons never really experimented with their chosen style. In their understanding, it is mainly powerful mid-tempo death metal. The theme of the lyrics is the same - war, and what should a band playing death metal sing about? Despite some stylistic monotony of the songs, they all have an individual melodic coloring. The rhythm guitar constantly buzzes, there is practically no jamming, the lead guitar is laconic, but very expressive. The bass guitarist does not pull ahead, although her parts are very interesting in terms of the placement of accents and the feeling of the compositions. The drums are present in the songs in the right proportions and create the ideal rhythmic basis for the harsh war anthems. I am very pleased with the crystal clear recorded sound. Against the background of the overall armor-piercing sound, the instruments are perfectly audible, which allows you to enjoy all the shades of the musicians’ playing. The mood on the album is created by harsh stories of valor and courage, bravery and honor, it gives me goosebumps when in the song “Anti-tank (Dead Armour)”, Willetts roars the phrase “Face to face with cold dead eyes”. Ruthless, but truthful. The emotions of a veteran who has gone through hundreds of battles and has hardened his soul - war breaks anyone, but it doesn’t make everyone strong. And this wonderful work BOLT THROWER is just about those fighters who have become stronger. Along with the disc “...For Victory” (1994), I consider “Those Once Loyal” one of the best in the group’s discography.

The greatest final chapter in Bolt Thrower's history. They were such an amazing band, and this final release bringing back the OG vocalist is incredible. I honestly put this as my #2 under To Victory. Great record

Probably their best work. One of the best Death Metal albums of all time. The CD arrived new and sealed and I was very excited.

Not a bad album by one of the most famous death metal bands from England. I recommend it only for fans

Fairly one of the best albums of the band, in the top three in personal opinion. Drive, attack and headbang to a broken neck. m /

Bolt Thrower belong to a rare cohort of groups, from which numerous fans do not require any changes on new albums, but, on the contrary, are perceived with hostility by any attempt to add innovations. “Those Once Loyal” was no exception to the rule - it’s still a good old death, without any frills and ridiculous keys, guitar duels and new-fangled chips. But the material is so professionally made that it shakes from the first chords and does not let go throughout the entire disc, without any difficulty plugging into the belt attempts by young and early to become famous for incomprehensible musical attempts from the series “I blinded you from what was”. I consider it more pointless to write about a new disc, because you need to listen to it, listen to it and listen again. And rejoice that such authentic, but truly honest bands still survive on the world metal scene. A perfectly designed booklet completes the picture of all this magnificence.

One of Bolt Thrower's strongest albums. A near-perfect example of their own unique brand of old-school death metal. Excellent songwriting, memorable riffs and a fierce vocal performance by first class growler Karl Willetts.
