Nominally the third, actually the fourth, and in fact the first Satriani album. The first one, with all the abundance of clever guitar moves, remains simply Music, and not a demonstration of stunning technique, and is able to be understood and loved by a variety of people. Maybe this is a hackneyed comparison, but when listening to this album I experienced almost the same thing that I feel deaf when I start to hear again, or blind, when suddenly a world of brightest colors appears before his clear eyes. Like Crystal Planet, Flying in a Blue Dream has become for me a bridge to the world of technical music. And along with "Extremist" still remains my favorite with Satriani. As long as I heard him, I clearly divided the world of music into two unequal camps: the first is the world of a simple and affordable three-chord, and the one where dumb hairy devils do whatever with their guitars. As it turned out, there are people who are able not only to torment their instruments, quickly fingering them, but also to torment them with meaning! Songs numbered 1, 3, 4, 9, and especially "Back to Shalla-Bal" and "The Forgotten (Part 2)" - an absolute triumph of guitar music! Each track has a peculiar musical ... horizon, or something. A sense of desire for something that you just can’t achieve. The feeling of flying. And a lot of surprises along the way. It turned out that Joe is also the owner of a very good voice. And how he plays the banjo! In addition, many of the compositions here do not seem to be what they really are, for example, which seems to be either a pure banter, or an unreasonable show off of The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing. In general, continuous enthusiasm. In my opinion, this creation by Joe is the most sustained and harmonious, you do not immediately enter it, and it gives you little comparable pleasure in discovering new facets in, it would seem, already familiar music. One huge minus, although not a reason to reduce points - is the cover. I don’t like this kind of standard photo of musicians in an embrace with guitars, and even the color scheme, even though it reflects the essence of the name of the album, looks very nasty. And so - the perfect soundtrack for flying in a dream, even in blue, even in pink.

Un redondo trabajo de éste virtuoso de la guitarra eléctrica, además de ser un trabajo extenso nos muestra a Satriani en toda su magnitud. Muy recomendable para amantes de guitarristas virtuosos.
