Description:Kasabian are the great heretics of British rock; 21st century renegades with a romantic's heart, a poet's lust for life and a lysergic vision to sear the eyeballs of anyone who would doubt them. Two years in the making, WEST RYDER PAUPER LUNATIC ASYLUM is the sound of a band at the peak of their powers. A fifty-two minute mash up of sky-scraping melodies, electro-punk riffs, Morricone-esque symphonics, Mariachi stomps and psych-pop lullabies, it is both a stadium sized declaration of intent and a bar-raising benchmark for rock music in 2009.
"This musical study was undertaken during a period of reflection within the asylum. Herein contains a compendium of found documents, artefacts and déjà vu." Recorded at Orangutan Studios, E-Land Mig Studios. Additional recording at Lookout Studios, San Francisco. Produced at the Glue Factory, San Francisco. Mastered at Masterdisc, NYC. Track 7 contains a sample from "Sans Soleil" by Chris Marker (c) 1983 Argos Films. Track 10 contains elements from "Sakura Sakura" written by Helmut Zacharias. Make no mistake about it, Brit rockers Kasabian are not content to die wandering. Let's just say that the four piece are unlikely to turn up a few yea...

In case you’ve been hiding away recently you’ve probably noticed that Kasabian are back. This time around the quartet haven’t necessarily taken the ea...

Dan Wale - 12/Jun/2009
Fearsome, Kasabian aren't - or at least haven't been. They've always talked the good fight; name-dropped influences that indicate impressively wide-ra...

I’ve been listening to West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum for some time now, and I’m still not entirely sure what Kasabian sound like. And no, that wasn...

Kasabian has been stereotyped ever since they arrived in 2005 with the anthem that was “Club Foot”. Oasis latched onto the Leeds quintet as potential ...

So Kasabian enter that 'difficult' third album stage, always a time when you look to a band to give you not just what you love, but signs that they mi...

Kasabian are both hugely successful and widely derided. They are a byword for lairy louts and boys from provincial towns squeezing themselves into tig...

Dom Gourlay - 08/Jun/2009 3 of 5 Stars!
As a year of re-evaluation and ultimately re-invention, 2009 has left perennial ladrockers Kasabian in something of a quandary. Do they pursue the tir...
