Description:
The Fort Apache band is a jazz and Latin quintet rooted in the Newyorrican experience, but always absorbing new developments. It has been several years since their last CD "Rhumba Para Monk" was released, and their new album picks up where they left off, this time presenting Latin arrangements of legendary drummer Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers signature songs (Blakey was known among his peers as "Buhaina"). The band members are: Jerry Gonzalez - trumpet/congas, Joe Ford - saxophones, Larry Willis - piano, Andy Gonzalez - bass and Steve Berrios - drums/percussion.
"Rhumba Para Buhaina Jerry Gonzalez & Fort Apache" is a captivating CD release by the legendary jazz trumpeter and percussionist Jerry Gonzalez, accompanied by his acclaimed band Fort Apache. This album pays homage to Art Blakey (nicknamed "Buhaina"), blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with hard bop jazz in an electrifying fusion that showcases both technical mastery and deep musical soul. The tracks are marked by vibrant improvisations, intricate arrangements, and a powerful rhythmic drive that reflects the unique artistry of Gonzalez and his ensemble. Jerry Gonzalez was a pivotal figure in Latin jazz, earning Grammy nominations and international acclaim for pioneering work that bridged cultures through music. Released under Random Chance Records?a label renowned for its dedication to authentic jazz productions?this CD stands as a testament to their commitment to quality recordings from some of the genre?s most innovative artists.
