Description:	1912 zieht der deutsche Kunstsammler Wilhelm Uhde (Ulrich Tukur) in das Städtchen Senlis, um sich dem Schreiben zu widmen und sich vom hektischen Leben in Paris zu erholen. Als Haushälterin stellt er die widerborstige und unscheinbare Séraphine (Yolande Moreau) ein. Eines Tages entdeckt er bei Nachbarn ein kleines auf Holz gemaltes Bild, das ihn sogleich fasziniert. Zu seiner großen Überraschung stellt sich heraus, dass das Bild von seiner Haushälterin Séraphine gemalt worden ist.
