Re-issue. Gothic Godfathers and Batcave founders who pushed boundaries with their glam sleaze rock. â??The Batcaveâ?? opened 40 years ago. Becoming a genre, its success overshadowed the band. This compiles all their major-label tracks with indie single 12â?s and more for their only album. CD back in stock; unavailable for a year. Front-man Olli Wisdom sadly died in August 2021. -

It's 25 years since the Batcave club opened, and synonymous with that groundbreaking club were it's founders Specimen! To get some gigs Specimen started a club where they and their friends could hang out. The Batcave soon became the place to be. Draped in nets, with sculptures, mud-wrestling and weird events going on in numerous rooms, it was soon swamped with TV crews and journalists as well as many creative artists and clubbers. Soon a bidding war broke out for this Bolanesque, theatrical, horror-gothic glam band. Signing to London Records, they spent lots of money on orchestras, and whims like a Batcave album but only issued two singles. Those six tracks (a mini-LP in the US) are included here on Azoic, together with 12' versions of their later indie singles, some demos and two rare songs live. Guitarist Jon Klein went on to join Siouxsie & the Banshees.
