Alexander S. - 04/Mar/2020 So the third Savatage album. What can I say about him? Definitely, the group began to actively develop and bring new ideas to their music. On this disc, the musicians presented a very diverse material, which was recorded and played at the highest level. Among the interesting innovations, it is worth noting the progressive song Fountain Of Youth, performed in the style of Rush, with a complex musical pattern and mythical text about the mysterious fountain of eternal youth. The direct association with Manowar in the Warriors composition looks very funny, all the same pathos-heroic lyrics and even a thunderous refrain remind us of the work of this famous team. Glam rock experiments are much less encouraging in the form of a pair of absolutely commercial tracks Hard For Love and Stuck On You. As time and the next album of the group will show, these undertakings will be developed in full. But for now, we are listening to Power Of The Night and, fortunately, I must say that, despite the aforementioned hobbies, the disk basically sounds like a classic Savatage. Sweeping the legs with its hurricane rhythm, the title thing, the mysterious and mysterious Unusual, the beautiful and tender ballad In The Dream - these compositions undoubtedly belong to the creative successes of the musicians. John Oliva turned around in earnest and, in addition to his magnificent vocal parts, gave out a couple of marvelous texts that clearly demonstrate that he went from sadomasochism to necrophilia (Skull Session, Necrophilia). But to be serious, the album though deserves praise for the quality of performance and the quality factor of most of the material, but still does not reach an estimate above eight. Mainly due to the presence of several frankly passing things and the already mentioned commercial experiments. Moving forward is, of course, good, but within reasonable limits. True, this phrase for the most part refers to the next disc of the group, but here everything is pretty decent. In the end, I would like to note the excellent, immediately striking album design. All in all a good buy.
