Digitally re-mastered edition of the British Pomp Rock band's 1974 sophomore album. Queen II is the real beginning of Queen as we know it. It's the first time we hear the multi layered overdubs, the harmonies, the varied musical styles (ballads, Folk, Blues, Metal, Pop and Rock, it's all there). It also includes their first hit single 'Seven Seas of Rhye', which led to the first of many iconic performances on Top of the Pops. The band recorded Queen II in just over a month in 1973 ahead of it's release in 1974. The album cover was shot by legendary photographer Mick Rock and inspired by a Marlene Dietrich portrait. The image was later brought to life in the revolutionary 'Bohemian Rhapsody' video. Island.

Island logo is printed on the CD label side. Released in a regular jewel case with a transparent tray and a 12-page booklet.

The second album of legendary rock band Queen. Album remastered in 2011 and re-issued in 2023 with booklet contained lyrics and photos.

Queen II was the band's first album to hit in the UK, although its charting a week later led to Queen's debut album appearing there as well. I just missed this album in my CD collection. But I still have it on vinyl from that time. The sound quality on this edition is amazing. I do recommend him.

"Seven Seas of Rhye" is the most well known song here and for good reason. It is the most developed song and along with the very good "The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke" and the short ditty "Nevemore" really shows what would come.

Legendary album of legendary band. I think I don't have to say about this classic. Just listen it and feel it..

After the great debut, this one took the band even further. Having some proto heavy metal tracks besides the usual classically inspired tunes, this is one of the bands greatest albums, besides the fact it didn't have any of their big hits. Highly recommended.

Just a year later, the Queen releases their second album, which turned out to be even stronger than their debut. The powerful mixture of hard, glam, progressive and sometimes even metal caused the appearance of not the best reviews from many critics, while ordinary listeners, feeling the beauty and originality, felt truly conquered. There is also some conceptuality in the work - the compositions follow one after another mostly without pauses, the lyrics are often an appeal to fantasy, and the relationship between good and evil is shown through the confrontation between the White and Black Queen (the band should live up to its name, right?), however, this does not mean that the songs cannot be listened to individually. They are quite independent things, just for a better understanding of the main ideas of the album, it is worth listening to it from beginning to end. The first part of the album, entitled "The White Side", was composed by May (with the exception of one piece by Taylor), the second, "The Black Side", is entirely by Mercury, but there is no dissonance - they wonderfully complement each other. The album turned out to be first-class, the most progressive of all in the work of the group, and Brian May has always been proud of it, calling it the best of their entire career, which we can agree with him. Many, following me, will find here the influence of various teams, but there is no plagiarism here at all. All the same good continuity, thanks to which the well-forgotten old becomes new.

Queen II saw the band finding their theatrical vision that would grow into fruition on A Night at the Opera. Simply put, the great moments were here and this is probably their heaviest album but the great songs weren't quite here yet.

Aleksandr N. - 11/Nov/2021 3 of 5 Stars!
Classic rock and the second album of the future legendary band. There are 3-4 interesting songs. Only for Queen fans.
