Description:Die furchtbarste Schlacht des II. Weltkriegs ist ein schockierendes Dokument der Unmenschlichkeit und Sinnlosigkeit des Krieges. Fast 250.000 Deutsche Soldaten kämpften in Stalingrad - weniger als 6.000 kehrten zurück. Auf russischer Seite waren die Verluste ähnlich erschreckend. Dieser Film dokumentiert den Weg einer deutschen Infanterie-Einheit, junger, unbekümmerter Soldaten zum Fronteinsatz nach Russland, bis zum bitteren Ende in Stalingrad. Sie sehen größtenteils noch nie veröffentlichte Aufnahmen die unter dem Hitler-Regime nicht gezeigt werden durften. Die Kameraleute waren Amateure, die auf dem Weg nach Stalingrad oder im Kessel gefallen sind. Es waren Kameraden des Autors, der als 18 jähriger schwer verwundet, mit einem der letzten deutschen Flugzeuge aus dem Kessel ausgeflogen wurde.
