Yuriy P. - 02.02.2022 The first album of the legend of world rock and music. It was a revelation. It can hardly be said that this music was similar to something that existed at that time. Mercury's clean and strong vocals mixed with the frequent use of the choir, the most complex compositions with a lot of overdubs and tempo changes, the most complex and beautiful melodies - that's what distinguished the band's style from the very first album. Frankly, this music, somewhat overcomplicated in terms of composition, is far from being able to reach everyone (but, if it does, it’s simply impossible not to fall in love with it with all your heart!). This extremely original style was used by the group until the early 80s, when it suddenly became qualitatively “opposite” (which, however, should not be understood as “worse”)… Apparently, the fourth album should be considered the pinnacle of the development of their style of the 70s. "A Night At The Opera" with the famous composition "Bohemian Rhapsody". As for the debut, my very first listening to the album left a somewhat chaotic impression. In addition, the recording quality leaves much to be desired. However, time after time, then one, then another composition suddenly became real musical masterpieces! In general, the compositional abilities of May and Mercury are unique. Their, as a rule, very beautiful melodies are quite difficult to perceive. And this, of course, does not contribute to the understanding of this music by the broad masses ... Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that the group did not immediately gain mega-popularity, which it certainly deserved. Musical criticism at first generally reacted extremely negatively to this music ... Like many other albums of the group, the debut includes material of various strength and beauty. There are things stronger, there are intermediate levels. All in all, a wonderful album, albeit gritty and rough, but still wonderful.
| | Azmi H. - 10.12.2021 Always enjoyed this album, so full of life and enthusiasm. Second album of demo recordings and early live tracks are a real pleasure, more stripped down than the album showing off Mercury's voice, an amazing and confident start for Queen.
| | Ivica S. - 02.11.2017 A forgotten album - a great hard rock idea - great singing - from the present perspective one of the original albums. Sviracki is stronger than many albums from that period. I recommend
| | Nicolás Andrés B. - 06.01.2019 La primera obra de esta ex elentísima e histórica banda. Contiene excelente s sencillos como Keep Yourself Alive y Great King Rat, además de una vieja canción de Smile, Doing Alright. Contiene un EP adicional con canciones de otro sencillos como Mad The Swine y See What a Fool I've Been. Excelente calidad de sonido y artwork.
