Oleksiy K. - 12.12.2020 Amazing work! I bought this edition on Grooves for me and my friends more than a half year ago. Finally found time to get my hi-fi headphones amplifier, unpacked the CD and enjoyed it. First of all - I love the material. It's excellent. Second - the sound, the production are perfect. Everything is so well balanced, the guitar sound is very powerful, yet very readable, the drums sound like real drums, not as a rattle-bucket-electronic-like sh.t. The musicians skills are not to discuss - all are top! I really cannot highlight anybody. This is what I call a solid team work! Favorite song - "Seven seals". I can listen to it easily a few times in a row. "Centuries of suffering" is very cool too. "Black Jack" is not typical for Testament's style, what makes it even more catchy. The book edition is very cool, love it.
| | Alexander S. - 12.02.2020 In 2012, Testament opened its second wind and the high-quality "Dark Roots of Earth", which took a good position in the metal charts, proved it. The guys decided to consolidate their new success and released last year no less uncompromising work under the ominous title "Brotherhood of the Snake", in the title song of which, apparently, about some sect or order. The album turned out to be as gloomy and melodic as its predecessor, but more speedy. There are few mid-tempo songs here. By 2012, the best Testament lineup was formed and is still playing, consisting entirely of pros: Indian Chuck Billy on vocals, drummer Gene Hoglan, guitarists Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnik, as well as Steve DiGiorgio on fretless bass (recorded in 1999 on the slaughter "The Gathering"), who replaced Greg Christian. "The Brotherhood of the Snake" almost all consists of militants. Actually, I was expecting such pressure from the guys. Of the musicians, the drummer was especially pleased. No wonder he was nicknamed Atomic Clock in the metal community - figurate what urine is. As technical a drummer as Hoglan, still look. Testament still write good heavy music and do not age with their souls, for which many thanks to them. According to Peterson, the group tried to write their "Reign In Blood". A bit ambitious, but the idea is not bad. "The Brotherhood of the Snake" was not as fast as the famous Slayer album, but heavier due to the time difference and the availability of modern technology. Chuck Billy's vocals are unique and haven't gotten any worse over the years. The most striking things here are "The Pale King", "Stronghold", "Born In A Rut", "Centuries Of Suffering". But the brightest and most memorable song is "Neptune's Spear" with its darkly disturbing riff. One of the most successful songs by Testament in general. To love or hate this album is up to you. Perhaps I judge this work somewhat biased, and also because I am a fan of Testament. But for me, this is one of the best albums of the group. Such a strong line-up simply could not write bad music.
