Das Werk gilt als Meilenstein der zweiten Black-Metal-Welle und überzeugt durch seine rohe Produktion sowie düstere Riffs und eine kompromisslose Atmosphäre. ?Panzerfaust? zollt den frühen Werken von Bathory Tribut und bleibt dabei unverkennbar Darkthrone: eisig-kalt, unerbittlich und authentisch wie kaum eine andere Band des Genres. Songs wie ?Quintessence? oder ?En Vind Av Sorg? sind heute Klassiker des Black Metal geworden. Die 1986 gegründete Band hat mit Alben wie ?A Blaze In The Northern Sky?, ?Under A Funeral Moon? oder ?Transilvanian Hunger? das Genre maßgeblich geprägt. The mid-tempo and slow parts featured on this record are nearly identical to those found on Celtic Frost's debut album "Morbid Tales." However, this record is hardly slow, as Fenriz's frantic and drumming pound throughout the entire record. These faster parts of this record are the epitome of the Darkthrone sound. As a whole, "Panzerfaust" is an amazing genre-defining record.
