ROBERTO F. - 02.06.2024 United! The first album of the frantastic (bad pun) phoenix! From "If I Ever Feel Better" to "Too Young" this album reveals some phoenix's true potential. The combination of rock, jazz, pop, country, and punk shows how willing phoenix are ready to try new things, especially on their first studio record.
This album manages to create some of phoenix's greatest hits and most remembered songs. While their songwriting at the time might not be as great as their second cousins The Strokes, they manage to make a combination of genres sound great on one album. "Party Time" is a great example of this. Despite this, I found the track "Funky Squaredance" sometimes to be a bit much and overshadow the rest of the album.
Though, to conclude this album is truly one of the albums you can dance to, but still has substance. Lyrically, it is not as profound as some of phoenix's other tracks from different albums, but is still a favorite of mine.
