Les Ombres |
 | Description: | Best known today as a composer of harpsichord music, Couperin remained deeply involved in chamber music. His four inventive trio sonatas and suites entitled Les Nations allege to explore the different musical styles of France and Italy. In fact, each nationâ??s sonata is more likely Corellian and theyâ??re all flavoured by a free-form
virtuosity and elaborate French dance suite. Probably inspired by Corelliâ??s pages, whose Trio Sonata Books appeared in the 1680s, Couperin first composed â??La Pucelleâ??, â??La Visionnaireâ?? and â??Lâ??Astréeâ??. They are subsequently entitled â??La Françoiseâ??, â??Lâ??Espagnoleâ??, â??Lâ??Impérialeâ?? and â??La Piémontoiseâ??. Despite these solemn titles, Les Nations are nimbled by a mysterious charm because French and Italian styles mingle. As a crowning final of Couperinâ??s anniversary year, Christophe Rousset and his Talens Lyriques deliver a long-matured version ofLes Nations: pure beauty and grace. - LES OMBRESAlthough the composers of the French baroque were remarkably prolific, they left US relatively little chamber music. Luckily, the few works extant are as well-written those by Vivaldi or Bach and they provide listeners a new perspective on music of the period. Francois Couperin, the finest composer at the court of Louis XIV, wrote several masterworks of chamber music, including the elegant and beautiful collection of sonatas entitled Les Nations, performed here by the ensemble Les Ombres. Couperin greatly admired Italian baroque composers such as Corelli, and his sonatas demonstrate his lifelong commitment to uniting, in his music, the best of both French and Italian musical conventions.Card Box With Two Slim Cards And 34 Pages Booklet"Les Nations" is a captivating CD release by the acclaimed ensemble Les Ombres, featuring musicians Sylvain Sartre and Margaux Blanchard.
