His four inventive trio sonatas and suites entitled Les Nations allege to explore the different musical styles of France and Italy. virtuosity and elaborate French dance suite. Probably inspired by Corelliâ??s pages, whose Trio Sonata Books appeared in the 1680s, Couperin first composed â??La Pucelleâ??, â??La Visionnaireâ?? and â??Lâ??Astréeâ??. They are subsequently entitled â??La Françoiseâ??, â??Lâ??Espagnoleâ??, â??Lâ??Impérialeâ?? and â??La Piémontoiseâ??. Despite these solemn titles, Les Nations are nimbled by a mysterious charm because French and Italian styles mingle.
