This session (1968) is one of the many blue note dates that were put on a shelve at the time of the recording and saw its release a decade later in the seventees; listening to this cd you wonder why its release took so long because the music here is first rate. The tunes on this album includes three Ervin originals, Barron's "Gichi" (which is great) and Woody Shaw's "In a capricorn way". Another highlight is the ballad "Lynn's Tune". Let's hope that Ervin's debut cd for blue note "the in between" - which is no longer available - will be released soon.
