"Capuchin Swing" is a classic jazz album by the legendary alto saxophonist Jackie McLean, released in 1960 and now available on CD format. This remarkable recording showcases McLean's innovative approach to hard bop, blending soulful melodies with adventurous improvisations. The album features an outstanding lineup including Blue Mitchell on trumpet and Walter Bishop Jr. on piano, delivering energetic performances across tracks like "Francisco," "Don?t Blame Me," and the title piece "Capuchin Swing." Universal, one of the world?s leading music companies, is renowned for its commitment to preserving iconic recordings and making them accessible to new generations of listeners. Jackie McLean was a pivotal figure in modern jazz whose career spanned several decades; he collaborated with legends such as Miles Davis and Charles Mingus and left an indelible mark through his distinctive sound and influential compositions.
McLean recorded this album in 1960 and it was released on Blue Note. Of the many albums McLean recorded for the label "Capuchin Swing" is propably one of the more underrated. Nevertheless, this album is a great introduction to the saxophonist's extensive output. The quintet is in fine form on a mix of covers and originals. All in all, to call the playing on this session strong is obvious... and to call the entire datee strong is an underachievement. The music is straight through in your face hard swinging bop just the way I like it and let's hope you will like it to.
