McLean recorded this album in 1960 and it was released on Blue Note. Of the many albums McLean recorded for the label "Capuchin Swing" is propably one of the more underrated. Nevertheless, this album is a great introduction to the saxophonist's extensive output. The quintet is in fine form on a mix of covers and originals. All in all, to call the playing on this session strong is obvious... and to call the entire datee strong is an underachievement. The music is straight through in your face hard swinging bop just the way I like it and let's hope you will like it to.
