"Double Nickels On The Dime" is a landmark LP by the influential American punk band Minutemen, released by SST Records. This 1984 double album is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and essential records in alternative rock history. With its eclectic mix of punk, funk, jazz, and spoken word elements across 43 tracks, it showcases the band's signature style?short songs packed with sharp political commentary and musical experimentation. Minutemen?s members?D. Boon (guitar/vocals), Mike Watt (bass/vocals), and George Hurley (drums)?crafted an album that broke genre boundaries while remaining fiercely independent in spirit. Minutemen are celebrated for their DIY ethos and groundbreaking approach to songwriting within the hardcore scene of Southern California during the early 1980s. Their previous works like "The Punch Line" and "What Makes a Man Start Fires?" established them as pioneers who influenced countless bands in punk, indie rock, and beyond. SST Records was founded by Greg Ginn of Black Flag fame and became synonymous with underground music innovation throughout the '80s. The label played a crucial role in launching seminal acts such as Hüsker Dü, Sonic Youth, Meat Puppets?and notably?the Minutemen themselves.
