"Asleep In The Back" es el aclamado álbum debut del grupo británico de rock alternativo Elbow, lanzado en formato CD por el sello discográfico Mercury en el año 2001. Este disco marcó el inicio del característico sonido de la banda: una fusión envolvente de arreglos sofisticados y letras poéticas interpretadas con gran emotividad por su vocalista Guy Garvey. Canciones como ?Newborn?, ?Red? o el tema homónimo destacaron rápidamente y posicionaron a Elbow como una propuesta única dentro del panorama musical contemporáneo británico; además recibió elogios críticos y fue nominado al prestigioso Premio Mercury ese mismo año por su profundidad emocional y calidad artística sobresaliente. Con los años han cosechado importantes reconocimientos internacionales incluyendo ganar finalmente dicho premio con ?The Seldom Seen Kid? en 2008 convirtiéndose así en uno de los grupos más respetados del Reino Unido actualmentente activos desde finales de los años noventa hasta hoy día . This first album, deserves much more than all debuts. The lines/lyrics are quite obvious and not difficult, emotional but this sort of alternative rock/pop was new than and is new now.
