"Asleep In The Back" est le premier album acclamé du groupe britannique de rock alternatif Elbow, sorti en 2001 au format CD chez Mercury Records. Cet opus révèle la signature sonore d?Elbow : un mélange évocateur de rock atmosphérique et d?arrangements sophistiqués portés par la voix profonde et expressive de Guy Garvey ainsi que des paroles poétiques marquantes. Des titres comme « Newborn », « Red » ou encore la chanson-titre ont rapidement imposé le groupe sur la scène musicale britannique contemporaine grâce à leur originalité et leur intensité émotionnelle ; l?album fut même nommé pour le prestigieux prix Mercury Music Prize dès sa sortie. Depuis lors, Elbow s?est affirmé comme l?un des groupes les plus respectés du Royaume-Uni avec notamment une victoire au Prix Mercury en 2008 pour « The Seldom Seen Kid ». Le label historique Mercury Records accompagne depuis 1945 les artistes novateurs qui façonnent la musique moderne internationale.

This first album, deserves much more than all debuts. The lines/lyrics are quite obvious and not difficult, emotional but this sort of alternative rock/pop was new than and is new now.
